I have been following the Lifehack site ever since its inception and every once in a while they post an ultimate gem. The following list of regrets that people have before they die really resonates with me because in my pursuit of being an intentional father I am so aware of the notion of modelling the following values, characteristics and priorities in ones life:
- Caring too much about what other people think
- Not accomplishing enough
- Not telling someone how you truly felt
- Not standing up for yourself more
- Not following your passion in life
- Arguing with your loved ones all the time
- Not growing the children to be who they wanted to be
- Not living more in the moment enough
- Working too much
- Traveling too little
- Listening to everyone else
- Not taking good care of yourself
- Not willing to take risks
- Having little time
- Worrying too much
- Not appreciating enough
- Spending little time with family
- Taking yourself too seriously
- Not doing enough for other people
- Feeling sad all the time
Been doing a bit of reflecting while running these past few mornings. Chad Kroeger’s song If Today Was Your Last Day has been on my iPhone playlist repeatedly. Living each day as if it was your last means you must live a principled life and as the author states: Going against the grain should be a way of life. I have come to realize living this way does come at a cost everything worth while does. I am reconciled by the fact that you only live once and this realms is only temporal–the eternal is yet to come.
