Once again Ken Robinson challenges us to consider the genuine priorities in education and weigh those priorities against our current system. In this RSA Animate video he also points to several myths in education that are causing our learners and society significant harm.

  1. Interesting how this particular mode of presenting actually incorporates different talents & learning styles.

  2. He really makes me wonder what we are doing in the public schools. I think of the pressure of state testing and how it is making us put students in boxes where many of them don’t fit. We are allowing children to think they are not special or talented or intelligent because they can not perform to the expectations of some arbitrary test. I agree that creativity should be nourished and valued in schools. The skills needed in the twenty-first century seem to be ones that can not be replicated by computers and creativity and divergent thinking are surely that. It is time we let our students out of the pigeon holes we are attempting to put them in and let them soar as they choose instead.
